Jared McCann was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday for forward prospect Filip Hallander and a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
McCann, who has one season remaining on a two-year, $5.88 million contract he signed Sept. 18, 2020, scored 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) in 43 games this season. The 25-year-old forward set NHL career highs in points per game (0.74), power-play goals (seven), power-play points (10) and plus/minus (plus-17).
Selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round (No. 24) of the 2014 NHL Draft, McCann has scored 155 points (66 goals, 89 assists) in 353 regular-season games with the Canucks, Florida Panthers and Penguins. He has three assists in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games, including an assist in six games this season, when the Penguins lost to the New York Islanders in the best-of-7 Stanley Cup First Round.
